She's always been drawn to creative work and received many accolades early in her career for her talents; but the work came so naturally to her, she was convinced she was doing it wrong. To combat her own self-doubt, she took classes—lots of them. By the time she opened her own spa nine years ago, Schone was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of many. On any given day, at Kalista Salon and Day Spa (137 SE 28th Ave, 230-8952, kalistasalon.com), you might find her doing nails, waxing bikini lines or giving highlights, but Schoene is known around town for being the best in the biz when it comes to hair extensions. Schone admits that the entrepreneurial spirit is in her blood—her parents and grandparents were business owners, too. Early in her career, Los Angeles was calling to her, but having been born and raised in Portland, Schone saw no better place to put all of her talent and training to work.
